Hôtel de Glace Québec: What to Expect on a Guided Visit

September 30, 2026

Step inside a breathtaking world of snow, ice and imagination—one of the unforgettable experiences included in our Québec City Women’s Getaway.

There are hotels designed for comfort, hotels celebrated for their history—and then there is Québec’s extraordinary Hôtel de Glace, a shimmering winter creation sculpted almost entirely from snow and ice.

Located just outside Québec City, the Hôtel de Glace is the only ice hotel of its kind in North America. Reimagined and rebuilt each winter, it is an ephemeral work of art that exists for only a few magical months before disappearing with the arrival of spring.

For our Meet Me at the Château Women’s Getaway, we have added a guided visit to this remarkable winter attraction—giving our travelers another wonderful reason to experience Québec City in March.

A New World Behind Every Door

From the moment you enter the Hôtel de Glace, the craftsmanship is captivating. Towering snow arches, illuminated corridors and intricate carvings transform the hotel into a frozen gallery.

During our guided experience, we will explore its impressive Grand Hall, artistically designed rooms and suites, and enchanting ice chapel—a setting so beautiful that couples travel from around the world to be married there.

Every surface reveals another detail: sculpted walls, imaginative decorative themes and carefully placed lighting that makes the ice glow in shades of blue, violet and silver. Because the hotel is redesigned each winter, every edition offers something new to discover.

And yes, there really is an ice bar!

More Than a Hotel

Although adventurous guests can reserve an overnight stay, you do not need to sleep on a bed of ice to enjoy the experience.

Our one-hour guided visit allows us to appreciate the hotel’s fascinating design, learn how this temporary landmark is created and capture plenty of memorable photographs—all while enjoying the experience together as a group.

It is the kind of place that feels almost unreal until you step inside.

What Should You Wear?

The Hôtel de Glace remains cold inside, so dressing warmly is essential. A winter coat, insulated boots, gloves, a hat and comfortable layers will help you enjoy the visit.

March can still be beautifully wintry in Québec, and the right clothing makes all the difference. We will provide our travelers with practical packing recommendations before departure so everyone can arrive prepared and comfortable.

From Ice Sculptures to Afternoon Tea

One of the loveliest things about this experience is the contrast it brings to our day.

After exploring an extraordinary frozen hotel in the morning, we will return to the historic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac for an elegant Afternoon Tea experience. It is a delightful combination: winter adventure followed by delicate pastries, warm tea and relaxed conversation in one of Canada’s most iconic hotels.

Together, these experiences capture what makes Québec City so special—the ability to feel adventurous, elegant and completely transported within a single day.
